REALITY

Impossible to quantify, but interesting to contemplate.

Why School has to Be Optional

The main reason is because it would force school officials to make it attractive.

The pressure would be on the Masters and PhD's to develop a school that kids would still go to even if it wasn't required. It also has to please the taxpayers who wouldn't be happy about a school that wasn't being attended.

Even though it seems like an insurmountable task, the obvious answer is to align the curriculum to fit the kid's interests instead of force feeding information they're not interested in.

No one, in their right mind, would voluntarily submit themselves to years of being force fed information they didn't care about.

The funny thing is the answer to the rebuttal everyone is thinking right now is that no one, in clear conscience, could say the current school curriculum is really cranking out good results. I think most people would agree that, at the very least, part of a good result would be a solid career path or two and, possibly, a little enjoyment during the school day.

Trying anything different would probably be a step up.

The message from the first day of kindergarten should be "personal responsibility equals freedom." Translation "if you take care of your business, don't cause problems, your freedom is unlimited."

If they want to be a rapper, just tell them, to keep in mind, they have to be able to take care of themselves so they need to calculate that in to every decision they make. But, if rapping is what they're passionate about you work as a team to help them reach that goal.

Everything in school is project based. A real project that yields real results.

It could be as simple as walking around the neighborhood and picking up litter to trying to develop an efficient method of recycling plastic. Biology homework is busy work, not a valid project.

They learn the biology and chemistry as they need it to complete a project.

A school that isn't enjoyable and needs to be mandatory should make people more concerned than they seem to be.
